Former Director
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of our colleague and friend, Gord McKinnon. Gord was an Independent Director on the Board of Exiro Minerals Corp and assumed a very active role with the leadership team. Gord passed away unexpectedly on July 30th, 2019 in a vehicle collision near Marathon, Ontario.
On behalf of the board of directors, leadership team, and employees, we extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to Gord’s family. Gord had a bright spirit and operated as a very thoughtful, honest and sincere man. He was clearly a passionate mineral explorer and disciplined businessman who built his reputation and companies through relationships. He made a strong contribution since joining Exiro and his enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication will be missed. Most of all, we will miss his sense of humour and laugh that formed the foundation of his endless optimism.
Gord was the son of the legendary Don McKinnon and was honouring his father’s legacy through his own successes in the mining industry. Gord was the founding CEO of Canadian Orebodies and led the company since its inception in 2008. He had many successes including the sale of Mineral Streams Inc., a company he co-founded, to AuRico Metals Inc. His ability to raise money and attract partners during the last few years was truly a result of his natural talent and love of the mineral exploration industry.
On behalf of the board, leadership, employees, and shareholders, Exiro will contribute to the charitable initiative the McKinnon family launches in memory of Gord. Our intention at Exiro is to create a legacy Gord would be proud of in honour of his all too brief time with us.
